Faith, Family, and the Foundation of a Landlord Tenant Attorney
I was born in Ukraine, to parents who believed with every fiber of their being in the Almighty Creator. My father, a man of unyielding faith, was willing to sacrifice everything he had—including his own life—to give his family a chance outside the oppressive regime of the USSR. Persecuted for his beliefs and defiance against the KGB, he faced unimaginable torment, even surviving being thrown into a gas chamber. Yet, through it all, his spirit remained unbroken. He brought many of his captors to Christ, showcasing strength that was not of this world.
Growing up, I witnessed the physical scars left on his body from the relentless persecution. But what stood out even more was his unshakeable faith and resilience. He was a beacon of light in the darkest of places. My father lived to serve God by serving others, and I knew from a young age that I wanted to be like him. His life became the cornerstone of my own vision—to live a life of purpose and perseverance, to be even a fraction of the person he was.
Why Nataliya Matejka Attorney Chose Law Over the FBI
As a little girl, I dreamed of joining the FBI, hoping to protect and serve as my father did. But by high school, I realized that a field agent’s life would place too much strain on a family. I found my calling in law, a profession where I could still make a difference in people’s lives while achieving my dream of being a mother.
At 18, I married the love of my life and moved across the country to start a new chapter. Shortly after, I lost my father. His passing left a void that could never be filled, but it also fueled a fire in me to push harder, to live a life worthy of the sacrifices he made.
I became a mother to four beautiful daughters, and when I decided to pursue law school, I did so while raising them. At the time, they were just 9, 10, 11, and 12. My oldest daughter and I went through our respective schools together — she was navigating the challenges of middle school, and I was tackling the rigors of law school. We pushed each other, encouraged each other, and celebrated our victories together.
People often ask me, “How did you do it?”
The answer is simple: I had the greatest cheerleaders anyone could ask for—my daughters. They were my inspiration every step of the way. I wanted to show them that no dream is too big and that faith, hard work, and determination can overcome any obstacle.
